The Search for Identity in American Films

A presentation by Annette Insdorf, Director of Undergraduate Film Studies, Columbia University, followed by discussion with Armando Fumagalli, Director of the Masters Program in Screenwriting and Production for TV, Milan Catholic University.

"Human beings share the same common problems. A film can only be understood if it depicts these properly."
Akira Kurosawa

A good movie is the first step of a good journey, and a challenge to our view of life and our understanding of the world. Therefore, cinema is not just a form of entertainment, but a source of reflection. Through the guidance of cinematic language, we will explore the quest for identity in a selection of emblematic American films.
