Who am I? What gives me value? What does it mean to love and care for others?

These fundamental human questions, at the heart of this year's New York Encounter, were also questions that concerned Fr. Luigi Giussani, priest, teacher, and founder of the Communion and Liberation Movement. Born out of the work of friends from Canada, this exhibit explores the life and thought of Fr. Giussani by examining his conception of the "I" in relationship with the Other, while sharing witnesses and personal stories of those reached by his charism.

"You are incapable of loving someone, of being a friend, if you have not recognized that you have been loved, or that you are loved by your father and your mother. Those who study psychology know this very well. It is psychologically documentable. The clear perception of being wanted, of being desired, of having been wanted and loved, of being loved..., this is fundamental for our mental health. Everyone knows it, but no one thinks of the structure of the law found within that fact..."

~ Fr. Luigi Giussani (CLU Spiritual Exercises, Riva del Garda, December 5, 1976)
