From Death Into Life

Stories of forgiveness and hope, with Gilbert King, journalist, and Rachel Muha, founder of the Brian Muha Foundation, with concluding remarks by John McCarthy, dean of the School of Philosophy, Catholic University of America

One of the Encounter's aims this year is to explore how our humanity—even when it is asleep—can always be reawakened. Encountering a mother who went through the unspeakable suffering of having a son murdered by gang members and who not only forgave the killers but also created initiatives to “show inner-city young people that they are loved and have an opportunity of a bright future” is definitively one of those events that may “rekindle our soul” and provide reasons for hope. Or, getting to know the story of an innocent man who spent 35 years in prison and forgave the person who actually committed the murder for which he was unjustly incarcerated provides an opportunity for our humanity to be reawakened. On this note, on hope and its reasonable foundation, we will end our weekend and continue our journey.
