250 Years and Counting…
A panel discussion on the current relevance and future prospects of America’s founding ideals with Mary Ann Glendon, Learned Hand professor of law, emerita, Harvard University, and Meir Soloveichik, American Orthodox rabbi and writer, moderated by John McCarthy, professor of philosophy, The Catholic University of America
The ideals of freedom, truth, and dignity, although imperfectly pursued, have been the cornerstones of America as a nation. In recent years, however, their unifying power has weakened, and they are now given very different interpretations, leading some people to even question the value of belonging to the United States. Speakers will discuss whether, 250 years later, these ideals are still adequate to “form a more perfect Union,” and if they will still be the “soul” of America in the future.
