Walter Rosenblum (1919–2006), a renowned photographer and the son of Romanian Jewish immigrants, was born and raised in New York. He worked as an artist, journalist, and teacher. During World War II, he served as a photographer and cameraman at the Normandy landing and was among the first soldiers to enter Dachau. His photography conveys the dignity that is inherent in human life, even in challenging circumstances, because of the connection to communities and places. His works are displayed in over 40 museums worldwide.
