Blessed Stanley Rother and the Mystery of Remaining
Is it possible to live as fully human amidst uncertainty, violence, and the collapse of institutions? Blessed Stanley Rother, “an ordinary martyr,” offers a compelling response. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Fr. Rother served the Tz’utujil people of Guatemala. During the country’s civil war, Fr. Rother’s life was threatened, and he was advised to return to the States. Declaring “the shepherd cannot run at the first sign of danger,” he returned to serve his people and was killed only a few months following. This exhibit examines Fr. Rother’s life and the living relationships that made such faithfulness possible.
