Anne-Marie Gustavson-Claverie
Born in Algiers in 1944, Anne-Marie Gustavson-Claverie left Algeria with her parents in 1962, at the end of that nation’s war of independence. At that time, Pierre, her older brother by six years, was already in Paris studying to become a Dominican. The Claveries eventually settled in Toulon, where they had a view of their beloved Mediterranean. Pierre returned permanently to Algeria, on the other side of the sea, in 1967, but often visited his parents in France and spent every summer with his sister, her husband Eric, and their two daughters. Their parents’ unconditional love and support sustained them then and still inspire them. A regular triangular exchange of letters for almost 40 years strengthened their bond. The Editions du Cerf published Un Appel sans Réplique, the fourth volume of the family letters, edited and annotated by Eric, in 2025.
