Fr. Thomas Georgeon
Father Thomas Georgeon, born in 1967, studied communication at the Sorbonne and then worked for 5 years at the Gamma photographic press agency. He entered the Abbey of La Trappe in 1994, after completing his studies and training as a formator (IFEC), where he served as master of novices and prior of the community. In 2007, he became a superior and then abbot of the Abbey of Frattocchie (Rome). In 2012, he became assistant to the Abbot General of the Trappists, visiting communities of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance around the world.
In 2013, he was appointed postulator of the cause of Bishop Claverie and his companions (including the brothers of Tibhirine), and he followed the studium of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints at the Urbanianum (Rome). After working on the cause of beatification of the 19 martyrs of Algeria, celebrated on December 8, 2018, he was appointed superior and then elected Abbot of the Abbey of La Trappe (France) in 2019.
Author of numerous publications on the martyrs of Algeria and the brothers of Tibhirine, he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Writings of the monks of Tibhirine (Cerf/Bayard/Bellefontaine editions), co-director of the collection Studies on Tibhirine and the Martyrs of the Fraternity, and collaborates in the organization of international conferences (Fribourg, Switzerland, 2019; Paris, France; Rome, Italy, 2021; Madrid, Spain 2023; Oxford, United Kingdom 2026). In 2019, he spoke for the first time at the Rimini Meeting and, in 2025, he was a member of the Scientific Committee of the "Chiamati due volte" exhibition presented at the Rimini Meeting, during which he participated in a round table on the martyrs of Algeria.
